Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had a "Literature Evening" for the theme of Christmas. We did it during the week after Christmas, and hope to make it a yearly tradition. Here are my resources. Obviously we could not do all of them this year, but I high-lighted what we wanted to do, and will save the rest for future years.

Our little group of 4 adults and 12 kids aged 6-17 enjoyed it and are begging for more.

BTW, I invite children & adults.....the kids must be able to sit for long periods of read alouds....and can play quietly with a puzzle or Kapla blocks..........some bring knitting....

And, a fire blazing in the woodstove and the Christmas tree lights twinkling and Christmas cookies & cocoa add to the festivities.

I'm glad you bumped this, Chari. I may be game to try it this year. What kind of time frame are we looking at - a couple hours? more?

Mary, we spend about 2-3 hours.

We go about an hour or so, then play Christmas Mad Libs......then break for snack and drink.........come back and read again for about an hour..then play more of the Mad Libs...and visit and chat...we all like to gather for a long visit and a late visit....by our choice.

This post explains our Literature Evenings.

We are having ours on Tuesday next week.

Chari,
I love your literature evenings! I think I'd like to do something like this during the Octave of Christmas. I see familiar choices on your list and unfamiliar ones, so I'm looking forward to looking into some of your books a bit more!

We'll set the atmosphere with a nice fire and spiced tea for our evenings!

Can you tell me more about this:

Chari wrote:
Merry Christmas to You
Christmas in the Woods by Beatrix Potter from pg 55-56

I can't seem to find it. Is the book a collection entitled Merry Christmas to You, with a story in it by Beatrix?

So glad you faithfully bump every year!!

Chari, this sounds wonderful. I'm glad you bump too!! I'm also curious about the B. Potter story .

We found The Saturday Evening Post Christmas Book by Norman Rockwell et al at a used book sale and we plan on using it for our picture study this season (and read some of the stories of course) .

Great selections!
